TASK Environmental, Inc. was contracted under CH2M Hill’s Air Force Center for Environmental Excellence (AFCEE) contract to excavate and dispose of contaminated soil in three separate areas of Eglin Air Force Base. Arsenic-, PCB- and pesticide-contaminated soils were excavated and shipped offsite for disposal. Waste profiling and soil confirmation sampling were conducted as part of the remediation activities.
More than 4200 tons of contaminated soil were excavated, loaded and transported offsite to a permitted landfill. Site restoration activities -- including backfilling, grading and sodding -- were conducted to complete the project. TASK assisted CH2M Hill in the development of a TSCA waste management approach to minimize the quantity of TSCA-regulated soil transportation and disposal. The waste minimization approach resulted in a cost savings of approximately $50,000.
