TASK Environmental, Inc. was contracted to conduct site-wide clean-up activities to support the remediation activities conducted at the Tampa Mill. The Tampa Mill historically manufactured rebar using scrap metal. The steel manufacturing operation ceased in 1997 when the plant closed. Heavy metals, petroleum products and PCBs were identified as contaminants in the soil through investigations previously conducted by TASK and others.
Clean-up activities included the demolition of an office building, sampling and remediation of subsurface soils, and decontamination of existing steel processing areas.
